Maidenhead and district Arts Council was formed in the 1970’s with the aim of campaigning for the funds and site to build a community arts centre in Maidenhead. After many years of blind alleys and site suitability investigations, the Norden Farm Centre for the Arts was finally commissioned, partly with National Lottery funding, and opened in 2000 with a professional management team.
Its primary goal achieved, the Arts Council has undergone a recent re-evaluation of its aims and objectives. It continues to be a registered charity with charitable objects - namely to educate the general public in the appreciation of and participation in the Arts; and to provide facilities to help the general public appreciate and participate in the Arts.
This Web site is therefore one of those facilities, and the information it contains will hopefully encourage the general public in Maidenhead to take advantage of the rich diversity of artistic groups operating in the area. We continue to look for other ways to inform and encourage people, not only to join a group, but to attend events mounted by each individual group, be it an exhibition, recital or stage production.
The Council itself is made up of a representative from each member group, who meet once a year, to elect an executive committee who fulfill the function of charity trustees and drive the projects undertaken on the council’s behalf.
