Maidenhead Archaeological & Historical Society
The aim of the Society is to discover, interpret and preserve as much archaeological and historical evidence about the area in which we live. The clues which lead to archaeological discovery are all around us, and accessible by many different routes, depending on the choice of the searcher. Field walking, study of aerial photographs, old maps and documents, recourse to local legends and geophysical surveys, can lead to previously unknown sites.
Historical research of the area can be undertaken either on an individual or a group basis, utilising facilities available in reference libraries, county and national record offices, museums and the internet.
The Society holds lectures on the last Wednesday of each month at the King George Vl Club in York Road, Maidenhead, 7.30pm for 8pm. During the summer months day-long outings are run by coach to places of archaeological or historic interest, coach departure point - Boyne Hill Avenue, Maidenhead
