Renaissance Voices was founded in the year 2000 with the aim of making a wide range of sacred and secular music from the 16th to the mid-18th century more available. It was felt that this period did not receive the attention it deserved. At the outset we were about 30 strong – now we number nearly 40. The choir is entirely self-supporting.
The choir performs both a capella and accompanied works. Solos are taken by professional singers or members of the choir as appropriate. Instrumental pieces provide variety. For a selection of our repertoire and more information see our website .
The highlight of our tenth anniversary in 2010 was a complete performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, with period instruments and professional soloists. This attracted a large audience and was acknowledged to be a great success.
The post-concert provision of wine and refreshments has proved very popular since it enables choir and audience to relax and socialise.
