    Description

    A talk by Ray Isted

Opened as an NHS hospital in 1947, the "Canadian Hospital" was originally built in 1940 as a 600-bed military hospital. Although closed in 1985, it lingers in the hearts of people around our locality due to the work of its maternity unit. Around 60,000 babies were born there, which probably represents the majority amongst the over-40s of "native-born" Maidonians and residents of the wider locality.
The buildings stood derelict for many years but in 2006 they were replaced by a new development, Cliveden Village.
