Description

Maidenhead Astronomical Society provides the opportunity for RBWM residents to discover the wonders of the Universe at our friendly, informative meetings. We cater for all levels of interest, from people who are just starting out, through armchair astronomers, to those who want to observe the heavens above our town.

Astronomy offers a wealth of mind-blowing experiences, such as seeing the majestic rings around Saturn through a telescope, exploring the feature-rich craters and seas on the Moon and viewing the Andromeda Galaxy, the most distant object visible to the naked eye. Our monthly indoor meetings, on the first Friday of the month, offer talks on a wide mix of subjects, given by invited guest speakers or knowledgable members of the society.

We hold regular members observing evenings on the 3rd Friday of the month, where we meet up somewhere dark for observing through members telescopes. During the year we also hold well-attended public observing events at Braywick Nature Centre (which includes talks and an exhibition) or at Ockwells Park (usually for a 'meteor watch') where you have the opportunity to look through some of our telescopes and ask questions. Whilst we do not have a young-persons branch, a number of attentive youngsters (accompanied by parents) regularly attend and enjoy our monthly meetings.

In recent years we have started to promote 'all things Astronomical' via our Outreach Activities (for which we have received grants from O2 and the Bayliss Trust). Hardly a month goes by without some-one from MAS visiting a local school, cub/brownie, scout or other event to give a talk and star gazing demonstration with their telescopes. If you would like MAS to attend your event, visit our web site and complete the General Enquiries form.

Everybody is welcome.
